Evangelical leader welcomes firing of foul-mouthed White House spokesman Anthony Scaramucci

Kelly’s challenge? Bringing stability to Trump White House

John McCain and TV news personality Megyn Kelly. His aides said privately that he seemed apprehensive about the move to his new home, but Mr. Trump has discovered there is a lot he likes.

Then there were the stumbles and factual misstatements in the GOP debates, the graceless winner moments after primaries and sore loser moments after caucuses. Then the inexplicable attack on the Gold Star family at the Democratic convention and the judge on the Trump University case, to name a few. And through it all, the constant churn in campaign personnel. And, more importantly, our children are watching.

Friday, President Trump tweeted that he had named DHS Secretary and retired Marine John Kelly to serve as WHCOS.

But it didn't last.

It's more likely that Trump was referring to the awarding of the Medal of Honor to James McCloughan.

On Capitol Hill, it has been maximum disruption, minimal legislation. The most consequential bill sent to the president so far has been a stiffening of sanctions on Russia (plus Iran and North Korea). After a thorough rinsing, strip his credentials and escort him personally off the White House grounds'. The administration says the president will sign, though statements have been vague about timing.

The following Monday, it was all over for Scaramucci. President Trump tweeted on Monday morning.

If you have been on vacation, you may have been buried in a good summer novel and missed the real-life story of Anthony Scaramucci, whose tenure as White House director of communications lasted just 10 days.

It has been too long since I remembered the feeling of hope. A new path. An actual pivot.

The president sat at his desk - the one used by former Presidents Barack Obama, George W. Bush, Bill Clinton, Ronald Reagan and John F. Kennedy, among others - at the end of his fourth full day in office. Kelly has by all accounts performed ably in that job, earning respect from frontline departmental troops and immigration professionals. But he also mustered out wearing four stars, which means he knows what it means to command. But as the New York Times reported, Kelly requested Scaramucci be let go, and that was that.

His fall from grace came as no surprise to many.

Restricting walk-in privileges to the Oval Office was a crucial step, and it applied to Jared Kushner, the multipurpose minister married to first daughter Ivanka Trump, who is also a presidential adviser. Scaramucci subsequently deleted the tweet.

This led to Lizza's column, "Anthony Scaramucci Called Me to Unload About White House Leakers, Reince Priebus, and Steve Bannon".

Yet harmonizing the president's swarm of surrogates as a choir is only Job One. There is scant precedent or reason to expect he will.
