Newcastle fans react to Danny Rose interview: 'We can take advantage…

Portugal's defender Joao Cancelo jumps over a Macedonian player during the UEFA U-21 European Championship Group B football match FYR Macedonia vs Portugal in Gdynia Poland on June 23

Rose suggested that he didn't want to have to look up any new Tottenham signings on the internet, with the England global keen for his side to spend big this summer.

Rose broke ranks this week in an explosive interview in which he said he is worth more than Tottenham are paying him and would consider an offer from another club.

"I will say this too, I will play up north. If you remember five years ago, people said 'who is Pochettino?' I'm sure they used Chrome or Google or Yahoo to find out".

Under chairman Daniel Levy, Spurs have tended to sign young players with potential, including Rose himself in 2007, or foreign players untested in English football - an approach supported by Pochettino.

Rose apologised for his comments on Friday and Pochettino has sought to move on, forgiving the England full-back, but the club's failure to sign a player this summer while letting Kyle Walker join Manchester City has raised doubts over their ability to compete for the title.

"When you sign players like Eric Dier, who are internationals today, nobody knew [who he was]. or Dele Alli, who was in League One", the former Southampton boss told a pre-match news conference. "I definitely feel we need to bolster the squad".

'Danny Rose is a fantastic player but he has been mishandled, whoever has advised him to do that is ridiculous.

Sportsmail columnist and ex-England global Jamie Redknapp has claimed Tottenham can be strong title challengers this season despite having yet to make new recruitments. I don't understand why I have to answer this question because the player has [shown] regret and has apologised for that he said regarding everything.

"I've never seen him be upset about the (lack of) signings either around the players or around the training ground. It was like, 'Wow, how did he do that?' I mean signings like that are what we need - that's just my opinion".

"I think the team are very united".

"The fact of the matter is, Danny Rose can ask to leave the football club - there's no problem with that and it's happened historically in the game - but the way in which you go about it in a respectful manner is important, I think".

Mauricio Pochettino has seen Manchester rivals United and City spend big this summer but claims Tottenham are trying to "win in a different way".
