Tesla to unveil electric Class 8 tractor this week

Tesla Semi truck spotted

One image claimed to have caught the truck resting in an area where Tesla is known to test its vehicles while a video showed a mule pulling away effortlessly with a trailer behind it. That's about the extent of information we have on the truck from other sources outside Elon Musk.

It's been reported that the electric Tesla truck will be able to travel between 200 to 300 miles between charges, making it more ideal for shorter hauling.

Never one lost for a hyperbole, Elon Musk promoted Thursday's upcoming Tesla Semi Truck unveiling in Hawthorne, California, with a little Rick and Morty-inspired hucksterism.

The launch of a Tesla truck will provide the much needed morale boost, since a futuristic truck could potentially change the landscape of the freight shipping and commercial land transportation industry.

.

In case anyone hasn't been paying attention, Musk is a master of hype, promising giant vacuum tubes and "big ****ing rockets" that can whizz people across great distances within minutes.

"On net, despite a potentially compelling value proposition, we do not see the Tesla Semi opportunity as a thesis changing initiative for the company, at least initially", said the Bernstein analysts, according to Benzinga.

Let's just hope he isn't referring to his abysmal oratorical skills reaching a new low when he says the event would "blow our minds away", but is talking about the truck instead. The Tesla Semi has the potential to disrupt a core part of the U.S. economy. The positive news might help investors look past the fact that production of the company's mass-market Model 3 sedan has failed to meet expectations, which helped Tesla remain highly unprofitable in its third-quarter. Soon electric vehicles (EVs) may be cheaper than gas guzzlers. "It is somewhat unclear why the company needs another major initiative (beyond Model 3, forthcoming Model Y, battery production, solar roofs and energy storage) on its already full plate".
