Barcelona 'holding secret talks with Antoine Griezmann'

Antoine Griezmann

The French striker, who is 26-years-of-age, would be a fine asset to the Barcelona squad, even if his current club, Atletico Madrid would, via his buy-out clause, expect a Kings' ransom for their asset. Thus, Atletico saw it fit to pay the Basque side a fee around Griezmann's release clause of €30 million to bring him to Madrid in 2014.

Barcelona have reportedly taken a significant step toward acquiring the signature of Atletico Madrid striker Antoine Griezmann after it emerged they've reached a "principle of agreement" with their target.

A January transfer is unlikely, despite Diego Costa finally becoming eligible for Atletico when the transfer window reopens, with a summer switch more plausible.

Griezmann's clear outward will to make the move, and join Mourinho's Manchester United last summer, is much of the driving force behind that.

City have also made a "substantial offer" for PSG midfielder Claudio Gomes, with L'Equipe claiming that the player has yet to respond.

The international break has brought some delightful news for Barcelona fans.

The Mirror reports that Lewis Dunk has been highlighted as a defensive recruitment, though Brighton are bound to be reluctant to lose one of their key men in their bid to avoid the drop. He will also present to be a viable long-term replacement for the aging Luis Suarez.

The club has been told to raise €75m in sales by June 30 or face a heavy punishment for Financial Fair Play.

Griezmann was heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford last season.
